With funding from CBM Christian Blind Mission, together with Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) and Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (FEDOMA) we are implementing the Enhancing Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Capacities and Strengthening Resilience against Climate Related Disasters Project.
As an activity in the three-year project, the training and mentoring of national state actors in inclusive disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation took place at Linde Hotel in Mponela between 22nd August and 25th August, 2023.
The three-day training aimed at sharing knowledge on the concept of disability and promote disability inclusion in DRR, understand how a changing climate may affect DRR and to impart knowledge about global guidelines for action.
In his opening remarks, Executive Director for MACOHA, George Chiusiwa emphasized on the importance of the training.
"As national actors, it is our responsibility to ensure that disaster risk reduction measures are inclusive and take into account the unique needs and vulnerabilities of persons with disabilities", he said.
The training attracted participants from various ministries, departments and agencies including the police.
