The Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA) today joined Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Malawi, Madam Monica Chakwera and the nation in commemorating the International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) in Rumphi.
As Malawi marks this important occasion, MACODA reflects on a decade of progress since the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed IAAD in 2014. This year’s global theme, “10 Years of IAAD: A Decade of Collective Progress,” aligns seamlessly with MACODA’s mandate under the Persons with Disabilities Act of 2024, which advocates for the rights and empowerment of all persons with disabilities. The local theme, “United to empower and protect persons with albinism during periods of elections,” serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance, advocacy, and collective action to ensure the safety and rights of individuals with albinism, especially as the nation approaches election periods.
